One of my all time favorite authors is Patricia Polacco and the fact that she read Junkyard Wonders was a real treat. I don't have that book as of yet but plan on getting it A.S.A.P. I had never heard the terms Visualizing and Verbalizing the way that it was used today but I came away with her presentation with some fantastic ideas. I loved the piece where Barbara showed us how pictures can really stimulate discussion motivation, engagement and vocabulary development. I also liked having the 15 Structure Words that are used to encourage student engagement and verbalizations. I hope to make color coded sets for my classroom so that my students will have those visual clues and I'll add picture clues also since my learners are in 1st Grade. Do you find this valuable?
