I thoroughly enjoyed Linda's presentation and learned so much. I feel that there was so much presented that I'll really have to go home tonight and think about everything that she had to offer. I am hooked on the idea of having a whole school learning community where opportunities are available where we all come together for our common cause- the success of our students. My school is home to many poverty stricken students who find solace, comfort, nurturing, and compassion as well as trying to overcome academic failure. We all know that they need so much more than we can offer but it seems as if other schools in the same situation were able to come together and provide a unified educational front. I am always looking for ways to better improve my teaching methods especially since I move from one grade to another often and feel that Linda has provided me with ways in which I can do that by working more collaboratively with my peers. I'm a big component of team work so I truly hope that this can become more than that in my school. I want that ...... community! I want to be that teacher that helps them succeed. Teaching is a two way street and I have found that my greatest instructors have been my students. My low achievers are my challengers, my motivators, my learning ladders. I look forward to reading more of Linda's work! Do you find this valuable?

Wow! What a great presentation! Linda had so many great things to share with us! She had many points that hit home for me. One thing she said was really interesting to me. “No Teacher should ever struggle with a student…not when we have a whole school of professionals to help and work together with us.” I feel like we need to better utilize all of the resources we have in our schools to best meet the needs of all of our students. I felt so empowered after LInda's presentation! She reaffirmed my feelings that the teacher should know the student well, and tailor instruction to each child's needs. I am planning to speak to my principal about our intervention period. We are currently putting lots of emphasis on "canned" products. that are not motivating to the struggling readers. I hope our principal will consider implementing something that can be more aligned with the classroom instruction. I am going to take Linda's book and powerpoint as my "ammunition" . Any other suggestions? Do you find this valuable?

Linda Dorn gave me a greater insight into what RTI should look like in the classroom. I was able to visualize the collaboration groups, the layers and the data analysis as she presented her power point. I have substituted in some districts where these things are actually happening now! Do you find this valuable?

Our school psychologist has complained, on occasion, that we refer too many kids for testing. With Linda Dorn's information that only 1.5% of a school population should be in special ed, I understand her concern. I now realize that some of our referrals are really instructionally disabled, not learning disabled. Do you find this valuable?

I completely agree! Our students could benefit so much more if we utilized all of the professionals in our buildings.

I have felt pressure as a classroom teacher to refer a student or "have them tested" the moment they show signs of struggling in the classroom. Or I have been asked why I waited to refer a student who fell below grade level a month ago. I also feel that interventions need to be in place, applied, and documented before we send a child to testing.

Our district is using The Cafe Book and The Daily 5. They are great resources for meeting students needs and are not boxes programs. They are very quick reads and full of high-quality, researched based strategies.

Me too. She also reaffirmed my thinking that teachers need to know their students needs as well as myself. So many times I feel like teachers think I will fix their students for them because I am the reading specialist. I offer remediation in addition to the teacher's instruction, so the teacher and myself need to work together on the missing skills needed by the child.
