Well I'm going to try this again and hope that this time it shows up! I for one am very happy that Marjorie was our first Keynote Speaker this morning because she helped me to understand the ins and out of the RTI process. My district began incorporating RTI several years ago when it was just beginning to come into play. We were given some instruction and training, but not enough to truly understand or feel comfortable about implementing it. Needless to say, we dove in and began trying to apply the components with students that we felt were at risk . After listening to Marjorie this morning, I now can make sense of some of the things that concerned me in the past. I feel that she presented the material in an easy to understand manner and was able to understand it even better after reading the first chapter in her book. I had an opportunity to speak with her at lunch and found her to be kind and generous with her time. I hope that everyone was able to take something from her presentation. I know I did! If in the future, I am involved with RTI , I'll be a little more knowledgeable and a lot more comfortable. Do you find this valuable?

Agreed, Caren. I am not an RtII interventionist, but have worked side by side (literally) with the one in my District's building. RtII was just evolving when I took on the position with this York County District. From what I have seen in the environment I work in, the perception and implementations are different, as well as the interventions across the District, and among similar levels of instruction. The way special educations students were perceived and serviced especially differed at the intermediate and primary levels. Contradicting to what was stated today, our District put RtII in place before enhancing the core reading instructional practices. Interesting that RtII is a general education initiative not a sp. ed one, but comes out of IDEA!! One of the most important and meaningful statements shared by Marjorie was that classroom teachers are the important players! They, according to Brozo, 'gear' the instruction of Title I and the core instruction for students. I have to admit that her use of the term 'silos' for the separate initiatives was a new term for me, but again used by Angela Kirby-Wehr. Within Marjorie's closing remarks during the Q & As, I appreciated the clarification when she stated, "....it's an approach, not a program..." Too many of the teachers I work with are looking for 'a program' rather than using best practices and good literacy resources. Do you find this valuable?
