Dr. Pratte provided so much information on ADHD and the brain! It is clear that she knows her topic! I liked the video on the nessessity for sleep and how it effects brain processing. I also really enjoyed the positive stance on the good things about having ADHD - several friends of mine (and some of my favorite students) have ADHD and it is true that they have many amazing qualitites. Thanks, Dr. Pratte! Do you find this valuable?

This quote really helped me realize my approach to my room might not be the most conducive to ADHD students:

"ADHD students pay attention to the most interesting thing in the room." Dr. Charles Siegel. And the funny part is that is usually not the teacher. There are so many distractions around students that they cannot focus.

I also loved how she explained some of the disabilities like auditory processing and how they try to figure out one part and then are 2-3 minutes behind.

All of this was extremely helpful in understanding all the differences among students! My mind was seriously blown!

Wow! Today's presentation felt like the tip of the iceberg and I feel motivated to probe deeper into understanding the concepts that Dr. Pratte talked about today; especially in the area of the necessity of sleep and learning patterns within birth order. I am so glad she shared her Moodle so that I can begin my investigation!!!! Thank you, Dr. Pratte. Do you find this valuable?

Dr. Pratte had an amazing upbeat presentation with a wealth of information! Her positive personal approach is contagious. Her information on brain research, ADHD, disorders, sleep, etc. is valuable for our application in the classroom. I would highly recommend this breakout session. Do you find this valuable?

Dr. Pratte has a wealth of knowledge and I feel lucky to have heard her presentation this morning. I really liked the ADHD quiz that we took. It opened my eyes to how ADHD affects an individual, family, and a classroom. It always surprises me all of the environmental factors that affect our brain and how we function. I was inspired in this session on the brain. The brain is truly fascinating! BethAnn was extremely knowledgable and I learned a lot. I think her powerpoint will be a great resource for me to use when thinking about some of my students with special needs. I enjoyed learning about the various neurological issues. The resources she provided should also be helpful. Do you find this valuable?

I totally agree! The video on sleep and how it effects the brain was interesting. Also I found it interesting that it is true.....reading before bed can help you to continue learning while still asleep, due to offline processing. Some fascinating info. in her session.

Dr. Pratte gave us so much information. She affirmed some of what I had learned or believed. Not all ADHD behaviors are really ADHD. You must really do some investigating into the child's health history and background before you suspect ADHD. The information that she gave us on the power of a good nights sleep was very interesting. I plan to discuss the importance of sleep with all of my parents at the beginning of next year. I liked the information on ADHD and some of the disorders. My granddaughter has been diagnosed with PDD-NOS and ADHD. I have learned an awful lot through working with her. It is an interest to me! Do you find this valuable?

I also really liked the quote. Now I have to figure out how to be the most interesting thing in the room. I try to be animated but some days and with some subjects that isn't always easy.

Thank you Dr. Pratte! You gave me a lot of information about ADHD brain based studies to take back to my classroom! The idea of asking parents if their child is getting enough sleep as a starting point when looking at causes for certain behaviors, is so simple and who would have thought about doing it? So interesting! This was, by far, the most interesting break out session. I am so interested in this topic, I would consider obtaining additional credits or perhaps a doctoral pursuit in this field. I learned much new information and affirmation of old information. Her use of holistic approaches makes complete sense. The T/F survey on ADHD was very eye opening. Do you find this valuable?

BethAnn is brilliant! She has so much information on the research conducted on various disorders that plague our students- as well as interventions and resources to help parents, students, and teachers. I just wish she had more time- I could listen to her for days!! Do you find this valuable?

Dr. Pratte provided a wonderful overview of disabilities that we see so often in our classrooms. One thing that I really enjoyed and definitely want to take back to my school is the benefits of ADHD. It is so difficult to sit in meetings with parents and share that their child has attention difficulties; however, I think if we could focus on a bit of the positives that can happen, parents might be more receptive. I also thought it was so interesting that Ritalin and other psychiatric medications are some of the most studied and researched medication, which might help parents also. Wow! Dr. Pratte just continued to amaze me. She shared many ideas on the brain and teaching. She is a fountain of information. She gave me additional food for thought on how to approach students that I am having difficulty with during the day. So much of what we do is finding the key to success for individuals on not only academic level, but sometimes more importantly the social & emotional levels. Do you find this valuable?

BethAnn gives us a different look at that student who just "doesn't get it." There is so much more to these kids than simply labeling them as lazy or low achieving. We need to dig in to these students (the onion layers) and find out exactly what it is that is holding them back. Too often, it is something that is outside of their control. With BethAnn's insight, we got just a brief glimpse of all the things that could be holding these students back. I need to do a better job at trying to find out what their issue is AND trying to use different strategies to help them succeed as a learner, not just in my class. Great job BethAnn! Dr. Pratte is so knowledgeable...I can't wait to take her grad class at York College! I am anxious to learn more about ADHD because so many of my students seem to be affected (positively and negatively) by this diagnosis. Thanks for the info. and I can't wait to hear more about it! I loved the quote by Dr. Siegal also. I think when we sit in meetings with parents, we throw around the "ADHD" term, but don't take the time to explain what it means. If we explain it in that way (They pay attention to the most interesting thing in the room), parents might understand it a little better!
