Divonna M. Stebick is an assistant professor at Gettysburg College, with a specialization in literacy and special education. A former classroom teacher, literacy coach, and staff developer, she has a deep interest in preparing new teachers to meet the needs of all students. Her areas of research include comprehension and vocabulary instruction, the culture of change, and reading and writing across the content areas. Recent publications include “Comprehension Strategies for Your K-6 Literacy Classroom” published by Corwin Press and co-authored with Joy Dain, "Information Overload" and "Reflective Blogging to be More Like a Teacher." She is currently working on a project investigating how school districts manage transitions during the period of change when implementing the Response to Intervention regulations and the implications of digital literacy within direct comprehension instruction.

Participants will learn how to apply Pearson’sPearson’
s Gradual Release Model of Instruction to word study and vocabulary theory and practice. Participants will learn about current vocabulary research and best practicespractices implemented through an integrated approach which has been developed and field tested across multiple grade levels and in numerous content areas.
Sample Video embedded. Simply go to http://clear.msu.edu/viewpoint and log in (use the username and password we gave you for this)

and you can record yourself (provided you have a webcam). Once logged in at the above address, click on the tab RECORD VIDEO. Once you have a recording you like, click SAVE and give your video a descriptive name and then click UPDATE to save your file. To access your file click on the MY VIDEOS tab. Click on your video and click on the embed code and copy it. Follow steps 5 and 6 in the below slideshow to insert your video onto your page.

Note: Your video can not


be made smaller using the tools provided by our .info website. The only way to make your video smaller is to adjust some numbers in the embed code before you submit it in steps 5d (do so in a text editor like WORD). Change all the instances of the number 450 to 200 and all the instances of 390 to 173. Once you've changed all those then copy them into the area described in step 5. Click submit. Nathan will help with this if you email him.

Description:
Participants will learn how to use a digital forum when applying Pearson's Gradual Release Model of Instruction for comprehension instruction. Participants will elarn about current comprehension research and best practices implemented through an integrated approach which has been developed and field tested. Participants will also apply a step by step process to develop digital think alouds in their own classrooms.
